Job Description

Main Purpose of the Job

The Norwich BioScience Institutes Partnership (NBIP) has an exciting opportunity for two Cleaners (0.54 FTE) to join their busy Facilities department.

Undertake general cleaning duties quickly, efficiently and in a safe manner, within a variety of assigned areas ranging from offices, conference facilities and laboratories in accordance with the various service level agreements of the various clients served.

Key Relationships

Internal: Line Manager, Cleaning Supervisors, members of the Facilities team and staff across NBI Partnership.
External: Staff, students and visiting workers across the NBI Site.

Main Activities & Responsibilities

Clean, stock and supply designated facility areas (dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning ceiling vents, restroom cleaning etc)
Ensure cleaning is carried out to a consistently high standard and meets Service Level Agreements
Empty waste bins or similar receptacles, transporting waste material to designated collection points.
Replenish consumable items (soap, toilet rolls, paper towels) as required
Perform and document routine inspection and maintenance activities
Carry out heavy cleansing tasks and special projects
Use chemical agents as directed by the Supervising in the discharge of cleaning operations or maintenance procedures, after receiving proper instructions and training
Notify management of occurring deficiencies or needs for repairs
Follow all health and safety regulations
As agreed with the line manager, any other duties commensurate with the nature of the post.

The NBI Partnership provides non-scientific services to the John Innes Centre (JIC), Quadram Institute Bioscience (QIB), Earlham Institute (EI) and The Sainsbury Laboratory (TSL). All of these organisations carry out scientific research funded by the UK Government, European Union, Charitable and Industrial Sponsors. The Partnership employs around 140 staff to cater for the needs of approximately 1100 Research Staff, Students and Visiting Scientists who are all located in close proximity on the Norwich Research Park.

The roles:

To undertake general cleaning duties quickly, efficiently and in a safe manner, within a variety of assigned areas ranging from offices, conference facilities and laboratories in accordance with the various service level agreements of the various clients served.

The ideal candidates:

The ideal candidates for these roles would have previous relevant work experience as a Cleaner or Housekeeper.

Competency in health and safety matters as they relate to the provision of cleaning services is essential, as are excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

Excellent time management skills are essential, as is the ability to work on own initiative and the ability to prioritise to meet the demands of the role.

Our cleaners typically start at 5am Monday to Friday, so the ability to start at that time of the morning is an essential requirement to this post. Some flexibility around those hours, i.e. extending working hours on occasion will also be required.

Due to the demands of the role, it is essential for the ideal candidate to be able to handle potentially heavy or awkward cleaning equipment and machinery, and stand/walk for long periods of time (reasonable adjustments will be considered for applicants with a disability).

Additional information:

The annual salary for these roles will be £9,360 (£17,316 FTE). There are two permanent, part time posts of 20 hours a week, with core hours of 5am - 9am Monday to Friday.
