Job Description

Main Purpose of the Job

The Norwich BioScience Institutes Partnership (NBIP) has an exciting opportunity for a Cleaning Supervisor to work in the Facilities department.

The Cleaning Supervisor will report to the Cleaning Manager and will be responsible for the day to day supervision of all cleaning staff.

The post holder will ensure that a first-class professional cleaning service is delivered quickly, efficiently and in a safe manner to all assigned areas in accordance with the service level agreements and relevant Health and Safety regulations/legislation.

This role is a hands-on post and the successful applicant will also have their own specific area on site to be kept clean.

Key Relationships

Key relationships include Cleaning Manager, Soft Facilities Manager, Members of the Cleaning Team, Laboratory Managers and Laboratory Support Teams and other members of Facilities.

Main Activities & Responsibilities

Supervision of allocated cleaning staff for the site.
Deputising for the Cleaning Manager in their absence.
General cleaning duties-including cleaning their allocated area to a high standard.
Assisting the Cleaning Manager in the induction and site familiarisation of new cleaners, demonstrating how to use equipment and products.
Assisting the Cleaning Manager in responding quickly and efficiently to any customer complaints.
Ensuring that the cleaning team carry out tasks appropriately and to a consistently high standards in accordance with work specification sheets. Training, coaching and supporting cleaning staff to achieve these high standards.
Ordering cleaning materials.
Assisting cleaning audits to ensure high cleaning standards are maintained.
Assisting the Cleaning Manager to evaluate new cleaning materials and equipment by conducting trials and tests and assisting with the briefing of cleaning staff on changes and new products.
Ensuring all staff are aware of the relevant Health and Safety policies and procedures.
Assisting the Cleaning Manager in ensuring supplies are issued to cleaners efficiently.
Assisting the Cleaning Manager in ensuring laundry is organised effectively.
Assisting the Cleaning Manager in carrying out Personal Performance & Development (Appraisal) reviews (PPDR).
Managing sickness absence and addressing any performance concerns arising within the Cleaning Team.
As agreed with line manager, any other duties commensurate with the nature of the role.

The ideal candidate:

The successful candidate will have previous recent supervisory experience within a cleaning environment.

A thorough knowledge of legislation relating to cleaning, cleaning materials and equipment (COSHH, manual handling etc) is essential as are good leadership and interpersonal skills.

A flexible working attitude is required together with the ability to quickly learn new skills and pass on those skills to team members.

The successful candidate will ideally have good communication and computer skills (Word, Excel).

Additional information:

Salary on appointment will be within the range £19,250 to £23,321 pro rata, per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This is a part time post (20 hours per week) on a permanent basis.
