The Partnership employs around 150 staff to cater for the needs of approximately 1500 Research Staff, Students and Visiting Scientists who are all located in close proximity on the Norwich Research Park.

Main purpose of the job •     Co-ordinate, schedule and administer the training and development for staff and students based at the John Innes Centre, The Sainsbury Laboratory, Quadram Institute, Earlham Institute and NBI Partnership.
•     To assist in equipping staff and students with the knowledge, practical skills and motivation to carry out work-related tasks and developing them as future scientists through maintenance and development of the administrative processes.
•     To manage the administration of training and development activities in the Institutes and Partnership, developing the annual training calendar, arranging training providers, coordinating and managing training events.

Group Details The Norwich Bioscience Institutes (NBI) carry out internationally renowned scientific research and training in the fields of plant, microbial, food and genome research and are based at the Norwich Research Park on the outskirts of Norwich.

The NBI already has strong and innovative training and development programmes for everyone from aspiring undergraduates and PhD students to post-doctoral scientists and experienced staff.

The Training Coordinator will maintain, develop and improve our training and development processes and programmes working with science faculty, support functions and the HR team.

The NBI Partnership has an exciting opportunity to join our HR Team as the Training Co-ordinator. The HR team provides a full range of HR services to internationally renowned Norwich Bioscience Institutes.

We are seeking to appoint a motivated and highly organised individual who will play a key role in co-ordinating training for a wide range of people from aspiring undergraduates, PhD students to post-doctoral scientists and experienced staff across the scientific institutes based in Norwich.

This is a busy and varied role which will involve organising and co-ordinating training activity and liaising with a number of key stakeholders. The successful applicant will be a strong administrator and team player, with excellent interpersonal skills that will enable them to build successful working relationships.

Experience of working within a scientific or higher education institute would be an advantage, as would a CIPD Training Qualification.

Salary on appointment will be within the range £24,000 to £25,000 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This post is for an indefinite contract.

Main Activities & Responsibilities
1.     Maintain appropriate records on training spend and training activity.

•     Maintain and develop the NBI training systems to record both training and development activities undertaken by individuals, their training needs while ensuring statutory training requirements are met;
•     Manage the NBI appraisal recording process and log all training requests resulting from the performance management process;
•     Record all ‘adhoc’ training requests on the Database;
•     Record and monitor all NBI training spend and provide regular reports.
•     Consider the costs of planned programmes, ensure value for money and keep within budget ensuring appropriate approval is obtained.
2.     Take responsibility for issuing and improving HR Management Information (MI).

•     Prepare Management Information (MI) on training activity (including annual returns, Strategic HR Committees) as required;
•     Issue monthly/quarterly MI to Institute Committees and Management.
•     Work with computing to identify system improvements leading reducing administration and improving efficiency.
3.     Organise training events and manage the JIC Training Centre.

•     Manage the administration of internal and external training events.
•     Manage bookings for the JIC Training Centre and its general running including the setting up of courses and IT equipment.
•     Ensure the training information on the intranet is easily accessible and regularly reviewed.
4.     Provision of advice on training and development

•     Identify training needs and develop training plans through job analysis, appraisal reports and regular consultation with relevant managers.
•     Provide training and development advice to a range of staff on the most appropriate training solutions.
•     Manage queries from staff and students providing advice where necessary.
5.     Monitor and measure the effectiveness and quality of training activities.

•     Collect and collate feedback/evaluations from all training activities, making recommendations for areas of improvement where appropriate;
•     Produce KPI reports.
6.     Monitoring of students to ensure their training needs are met.

•     Help to monitor student progression through the Postgraduate Training programme;
•     Work with students as directed to support development of individual Personal Development Plans;
•     Take part in the induction for new students each year and make them aware of the support available to them.
7.     General

•     Support the delivery of the annual appraisal process, including managing the administration of the Appraisal System, responding to enquiries and maintaining on-line guidance, support materials and effective liaison with stakeholders across the Institutes / Partnership.
•     Source and identify training suppliers ensuring value for money and compliance with agreed procurement practices;
•     Contribute to project work when required and work with the team to deliver HR strategy;
•     Assist with general office administration.
•     Undertake any other duties as reasonably required and commensurate with the role.
