The Partnership employs around 150 staff to cater for the needs of approximately 1500 Research Staff, Students and Visiting Scientists who are all located in close proximity on the Norwich Research Park.

Main purpose of the job The post holder will provide leadership in a supervisory role overseeing and working with the Cleaning team on a day to day basis. The role is to manage the performance of the cleaning team, to ensure that they work in accordance with the service level agreement, standard operating procedures and in compliance with health and safety and environmental legislation.

The post holder, working in close collaboration with science staff, will be responsible for ensuring the Cleaning Team is efficient and maintains a high standard of cleanliness across the site.

We are looking to appoint a cleaning manager who will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of a high quality and efficient cleaning services.

The successful candidate will manage and work with the cleaning team ensuring high standards of service whilst maintaining compliance with health, safety and relevant environmental legislation.

Essential requirements for this role are:
•     A detailed knowledge of the relevant legislation, health, hygiene and safety procedures and precautions in relation to cleaning services and ideally a Health and Safety Qualification (e.g. NEBOSH Certificate)
•     Supervisory experience of leading high performing cleaning teams.
•     Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and awareness of the importance of delivering high standards of service.
•     Good computer skills (Microsoft Office - Excel, Word, Email)
•     Experience in training cleaning staff

Key relationships Reporting to Soft Facilities Manager the post holder will manage the Cleaning Team. They will interact with a wide variety of NBI Partnership and Science staff to establish and maintain cleaning standards. The post holder will work closely with Laboratory Managers, Building Managers, the Learning & Development Manager, Accommodation Officer and Conference Centre Manager and will meet on a regular basis to manage expectations and organise non-routine cleaning. The post holder will work in close collaboration with the Senior Janitor.

The post holder will work with suppliers to develop cost effective solutions for cleaning consumables and equipment.

The post holder will arrange for agency workers to cover staff absences.
Main Activities & Responsibilities
Ensure cleaning is carried out to a consistently high standard. Coach and support the cleaning team to achieve and maintain these high standards.
Supervise the cleaning team including:

•     Induction and training of staff, including refresher and specialised training

•     Updating cleaning team on work changes and new products and equipment

•     Maintaining training records

•     Direct staff i.e. routine and specific allocation of duties

•     Set and manage productivity targets

•     Monitoring cleaning quality, recording status and managing improvements where required, addressing areas of concern

•     Maintain inspection records

•     Schedule and oversee deep cleaning work

•     Managing annual leave, whilst maintaining acceptable cleaning standards

•     Managing sickness absence, whilst maintaining acceptable cleaning standards
Manage the performance of the cleaning team - complete annual Performance Reviews, probationary reviews and conduct, when necessary, disciplinary, capability and grievance procedures.
Manage day to day aspect of the waste contract e.g. organise on demand collections, recycling etc.
Review and update Service Level Agreements including:

•     Scoping cleaning needs and demands

•     Setting rota allocations

•     Implementing and monitoring trial schedules

•     Providing feedback to management and building users
Manage the cleaning budget, including:

•     Controlling expenditure within budget

•     Checking invoices for payment

•     Reviewing costs and negotiating new prices for products

•     Cross charging e.g. Hill House Flats

Liaising with service suppliers and ensuring service contracts are completed to contract specification
Manage stock to include:

•     Monitoring usage and stock levels

•     Evaluating new cleaning materials and equipment
Ensure health and safety working standards are maintained, including:

•     Preparing and updating risk assessments e.g. manual handling, COSHH, work equipment

•     Maintaining and updating maintenance records for equipment

•     Issuing PPE and maintaining records
Maintain awareness of developments in cleaning equipment and materials, looking to improve the service provided.
Organise staff team meetings to address areas of concerns, and provide updates as necessary.
Respond effectively to complaints and ensure complaints are resolved satisfactorily.
Complete routine reports on cleaning activities and KPIs.
Undertake routine daily cleaning duties and cover staff absence when necessary.
As agreed with line manager, any other duties commensurate with the nature of the role
