Main Purpose of the Job

The Norwich Bioscience Institutes Partnership (NBIP) has an exciting opportunity for an Information Systems & Application Development Manager to join their busy Computing department.

The Information Systems & Application Development Manager will deliver the systems analysis, ongoing support and development and implementation of both in- house and commercial applications.

Key Relationships

The post holder will lead a small team and interact with key stakeholders across other support departments as well as customers within the Scientific Institutes. There will be a requirement to work with software suppliers during system implementations, system upgrades and issue resolution.

Project-manage core application upgrades while maintaining interoperability & functionality e.g., Finance system, HR system. Identify and define future needs of and modifications to supported applications, the NBI data warehouse and in-house-developed software.

NBI Partnership

The NBI Partnership provides non-scientific services to the John Innes Centre (JIC), Quadram Institute Bioscience (QIB), Earlham Institute (EI) and The Sainsbury Laboratory (TSL). All of these organisations carry out scientific research funded by the UK Government, European Union, Charitable and Industrial Sponsors. The Partnership employs around 140 staff to cater for the needs of approximately 1100 Research Staff, Students and Visiting Scientists who are all located in close proximity on the Norwich Research Park.

The Norwich Bioscience Institutes are a cluster of internationally renowned research organisations, working to tackle major challenges of the 21st Century – the sustainability of our environment, our food supplies and healthy ageing.

This varied role is a key part of our service delivery. Leading our Information Systems & Applications Development Team, the role will interact with stakeholders across the NBIP departments, software suppliers and our customers within the Scientific Institutes. The role will ensure the team delivers on coding applications, supporting and implementing systems, data analysis, empowering our users and providing them with ongoing support.  

The ideal candidate:

The ideal candidate will have experience in management of IT software development, management of developers, and be able to demonstrate significant experience in systems analysis, system implementation, database design and programming. You will have expertise in HTML, CSS, JavaScript/jQuery and Web application development. A knowledge of HR and Finance back-end business processes would be highly advantageous.  

Additional information:

Salary on appointment will be within the range £42,050 to £51,950 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time post offered on an indefinite basis.
