Main Purpose of the Job

The Norwich Bioscience Institutes (NBI) are a cluster of internationally renowned research organisations, working to tackle major challenges of the 21st Century: the sustainability of our environment, our food supplies and healthy aging. The NBI Partnership provides non-scientific services to the four Institutes on the Norwich Research Park (Earlham Institute, John Innes Centre, Quadram Institute Bioscience and The Sainsbury Laboratory).

The Business Analyst will play a key role in the Business Systems Transformation programme. You will work alongside other team members and report directly to the Business Systems Transformation Manager. Your main tasks will include performing detailed requirements analysis, documenting processes, working closely with stakeholders and users, and third party suppliers, and performing some user acceptance testing. To succeed in this role, you should have a natural analytical way of thinking and be able to explain difficult concepts to non-technical users.

The post will work collaboratively with the NBI Partnership, HR, and Finance team members, as well as Institute Management teams and end users to provide an excellent business systems environment meeting current and future needs of NBI’s world leading bioscience research community

Main Activities & Responsibilities

Evaluating business processes, anticipating requirements, uncovering areas for improvement, and developing and implementing solutions.
Leading ongoing reviews of business processes and developing optimisation strategies.
Staying up to date on the latest process and IT advancements to automate and modernise systems.
Conducting meetings, workshops, and presentations to share ideas and findings.
Effectively communicating your insights and plans to cross-functional team members and management.
Gathering critical information from meetings with various stakeholders and producing useful reports.
Working closely with stakeholders, users, technicians, and managerial staff.
Providing leadership, training, coaching, and guidance to junior staff.
Allocating resources and maintaining cost efficiency.
Ensuring solutions meet business needs and requirements.
Documenting test scripts and performing user acceptance testing.
Performing requirements analysis.
As agreed with line manager, any other duties commensurate with the nature of the role.

NBI Partnership

The NBI Partnership provides non-scientific services to the John Innes Centre (JIC), Quadram Institute Bioscience (QIB), Earlham Institute (EI) and The Sainsbury Laboratory (TSL). All of these organisations carry out scientific research funded by the UK Government, European Union, Charitable and Industrial Sponsors. The Partnership employs around 140 staff to cater for the needs of approximately 1100 Research Staff, Students and Visiting Scientists who are all located in close proximity on the Norwich Research Park.

Computing

Group Details

The Core Computing Department has 18 staff meeting the IT needs of 4 scientific institutes and also provides system administration support to the HR, Finance and Facilities teams. The Department has 3 teams covering IT Infrastructure, Desktop Support, and Information Systems & Application Development.

NBI currently use Microsoft Dynamics GP (Finance), Jane HR and a number of bespoke in-house applications including the intranet, appraisal system etc. linked to a central data warehouse.

The ideal candidate:

You will have a degree in a relevant subject or certification in business analyst work.

The post holder will have an understanding of HR, Finance and other businesses systems and processes, having experience in dealing with third party supplies is essential for this role as you will be liaising with them closely in determining acceptable solutions. It is advantageous if the successful candidate has experience in evaluating current processes and procedures and suggesting improvements.

To succeed in this role, you should have a natural analytical way of thinking and be able to explain difficult concepts to non-technical users.

Additional information:

Salary on appointment will be within the range £34,950 to £43,750 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time post for a contract of 12 months.
