Job Description

Main Purpose of the Job

The post holder is responsible for processing the monthly payroll for approximately 800 plus employees, over 6 payrolls, in a competent and professional manner.

Ensuring accurate and timely in-house payroll in accordance with contractual and statutory regulations. Responsible for dealing with new starters, leavers, processing the payment of salaries, overtime and allowances through a computerised payroll system. Providing advice to staff in relation to pay, tax, pension and NI.

Key Relationships

Reporting to HR Services & Payroll Manager. Working closely with other members of the HR Team, Finance and IT Departments.

External: HMRC, Aviva, NEST, JSS pension administrators, Sodexo Employee Benefits (childcare vouchers/Cycle to work).

Main Activities & Responsibilities

Manage the PAYE process from start to finish
• New starters - processing new starters in a timely manner to ensure they are on the payroll system from day one.
• Processing monthly salaries, overtime, changes to contracts, extensions, hours etc. Liaise with HR colleagues with regards to contract changes.
• Processing leavers - acknowledging resignations, retirements, end of contracts. Advising of annual leave entitlement and processing statutory redundancy payments.
• Childcare Vouchers - ensure monthly vouchers are requested on time and payroll deductions processed.
• Cycle to Work - ensure monthly payments are processed and accurate records maintained.
• Ensure both contractual and statutory maternity payments are processed accurately.
• Employee Benefits - Ensuring joiners and leavers are processed.
• Month end processes/payroll checks.
• Process purchase of annual leave requests.
• Provide reports to HR Managers, senior management and auditors as required

• Provide accurate advice to staff regarding salaries, pensions, maternity pay, sickness entitlement, salary sacrifice schemes.
• Provide advice to HR managers and staff with regards to maternity, sick pay, pensions.
• Monitor sickness absence with regards to entitlement to paid sickness absence.
• Preparation of periodic and annual report data as required by HR Managers.

• To maintain the highest standards of confidentiality.
• To carry out other duties within the HR team as assigned by the HR Payroll and Services Manager, which are commensurate with the general functions of HR and grading of the post.

• Competent and professional with up-to-date payroll legislation knowledge including HMRC. 
• Handling queries and providing advice to staff in relation to salaries, tax, pensions, salary sacrifices and NI.
• Responsible for ensuring accurate and timely in-house payroll is processed in accordance with contractual and statutory regulations.
• The successful applicant would be responsible for dealing with all starters, leavers, changes, overtime and allowances via the payroll system.

The ideal candidate:

The successful candidate will be an experienced Payroll Administrator who has processed UK payrolls with minimal supervision. The ability to work competently under pressure and to multitask is essential. Applicants should be proactive and highly organised with good time management skills and attention to detail. Excellent MS Excel and Word skills are essential.

Additional information:

Salary on appointment will be within the range £28,550 to £34,000 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time post which is office based and offered on a permanent basis.
